Update to total loss of power. After taking tank off and checking starter relay switch, I see the 30amp fuse melted down in relay switch. This is second time this has happened in about 6 months. Could this be a ignition switch failure or possibly a starter failure?

Went riding this evening to get feel for new tires on 97 tourer. Made a stop around the corner from house and when I went to start her up she hesitated, then tried to start, and backfired before everything went off. No power to anything, including aux. lighting. I'm not real sharp on electrical things, but my best guess is the ignition swt. Checked all fuses and non blown, including main 30amp fuse. Anybody got any clues what is happening?
